Aztecan

Stone, 11x17x9
2014

This alabaster was very, very hard, too hard to make soft flowing forms. With a handsaw I could cut planes into the rock, leaving some of the coarse rock surface. The sequence of steps recalls for me an Aztecan temple; the precarious tilt emphasizes the precarious situation of the elect to be sacrificed; the heavy blackness sums up the daunting situation.
