On the Threshold
Wood, 34x11x11
2015
This sculpture was carved out of a large maple tree trunk that I cured carefully for many years. It was inspired by a lily bud, large and pregnant with life with tiny tips spearing through the top.
I wanted a large, simple shape, disproportionate to the rest, but loaded with promise and expectation. The top spikes give a peek at what is harbored within. The much darker, brown - green top sphere exposes the heartwood and echoes the bursting form beneath.
