Red Oak
26x17x12"
2007
A gift of two pieces of quartered oak reminded me in their stoic verticality of the World Trade Center towers. The outside — like bark — is covered with copper, which I hammered and covered with patina. I attempted to symbolize the souls of the departed with a suspended gold-leaved sphere, a symbol of preciousness and unity.
